Personal Statement Personal Finance - 1628 Words

Introduction Personal finance is overall a very important topic that many people don’t know enough about. Investing is something that I do not know enough about and I know it is a very important. My parents have always told me that you need to do something with the money you don’t currently need because you could be making a profit off of it and you won’t by just putting it in the bank. When I was younger I used to get bonds from family as presents, one of those bonds that you can buy for about $5 and in 10 years it would be worth $20. As I got older my dad helped me put some of my money into a fixed term bank account where I had to keep the money for year long periods and I received higher interest. Eventually I decided I wanted to invest money into the stock market, but I did this by giving my dad the money and telling him he had four years to make me a profit so I had the money by the time I graduated college. But by doing it this way I know nothing about whe re the money is or how to manage it myself. I am interested in learning more about investing, focusing on the stock market but there are many different types of investments. There are bonds, mutual funds, stocks, and then there are other types such as real estate (â€Å"Investing 101: Types of Investments†.) Bonds Bonds are a type of fixed income security in which you are lending a certain amount of your money and in a set amount of years they pay you back with interest. Persuasive Essay On Cheating - 1052 Words

Is it okay to cheat? What does it mean to cheat? Just like everything else in life, the answer to both questions depend on who you ask. If you were to ask a college student what cheating is they would most likely respond with â€Å"copying a classmate’s paper†. However, if you were to ask a professor at the same university what cheating was they might respond with â€Å"any form of copying another person’s work, ideas, methods, etc. without giving credit†. This leaves the experimenter with a question: why does the same question receive such different answers? These two answers differ because of one idea: rationale. To the student, cheating isn’t as serious of a deal as the professors believe it is. Students most often believe that cheating†¦show more content†¦In other words, the student’s intuition once again falsely convinced them that it would be okay to cheat if someone else was doing it as well. At Randolph-Macon College cheating is not accepted on any level. The Code of Academic Integrity explicitly outlines every possible situation that comes up and explains how and why it is a violation. This relates to Ariely’s concepts because while a student may believe that what they are doing is just a minor offense or not worth disputing about, the code states otherwise. For example, if a student believes that using a translator to help them with their foreign language homework is acceptable, they would be wrong. In addition, students have also read and agreed to the code so there typically isn’t a gray area when incidents happen. The code also states the possible punishments that could be distributed upon violating the code. Finally, the code clearly informs the student what is at stake and should diminish the chances of a cognitive illusion from happening. So far, Ariely’s ideas have only be reference in an educational setting but they can also be related to the business world. Is it okay for an employee to take a pen from the office? How about a pack of printer paper? Or is it okay to just add one more zero to your company’s financial report to show a little more profitability? This idea of cheating carries over into businesses and their employees as well. My Early Experiences With Trauma - 1298 Words

My early experiences with microaggressions caused me to have improper reactions of calling people out on their statement, which usually came out with the same surprising response. I feel that most people who use microaggressions are unaware that they engage in racial communications that are negative or derogatory insults to people of color. Microaggressions are the current forms of discrimination that are more subtle than direct, and I’m stunned that only when I called people out on their words were they unconsciously discriminating. While these early instances of microaggression were unconscious, I feel the more conscious forms, like microinsults, are more inappropriate and discriminating. Microinsults. Every ethnic minority has faced forms of subtle racism, but the type that I had difficulty understanding was microinsults. Why use another person’s race if you are just going to insult them anyways? I’ve heard my share of denigrating messages of microinsults, like â€Å"If your people didn’t have such small eyes, maybe you would have seen that coming,† and it always shocks me how people bring the topic of race in to hurt feelings. Stereotype Threat. Another aspect that bothered me was the fear of fulfilling the stereotype that Chinese women are horrible drivers. Understanding Social Problems

Question: Estimate what a family of four (two parents, two young children) would have to pay annually for food, clothing, shelter, energy, and other necessities of life. What figure do you end up with? How does this sum of money compare with the official 2015 federal poverty line of $24,250 for a family of four? What are some consequences this family of four will face if they cannot earn enough to cover these expenses? The area you have to use is: Indianapolis ( the state: Indiana) Answer: Annual Expenses of a family of four people in Indiana: General expenses of a family four members are calculated monthly by considering the present market and then the final figure has been drawn by calculating the annual expenses with the help of the monthly figures in each type of expenses. Expenses Monthly Annually Food $ 2,000.00 $ 24,000.00 Clothing $ 500.00 $ 6,000.00 Shelter $ 900.00 $ 10,800.00 Energy $ 80.00 $ 960.00 Other $ 100.00 $ 1,200.00 Total $ 42,960.00 Table 1: Cost estimation (Source: Indianapolis, 2016) The annual expenses of the family have been calculated considering the standard living costs in Indiana and the final figure is $42,960.00 (Expatistan, cost of living comparisons, 2016). The official 2015 federal poverty line is $24,250 which is too less than the calculated figure. This fact is indicating that the people who have the income level near to the poverty level cannot enjoy the standard living of life in the selected state. More than 100 million people are living in the poverty level or near the poverty level having income of this range (Glasmeier Farrigan, 2013). Consequences if the family can not earn enough amount of money for covering the expenses: The family will not be able to meet the requirements if the standard living if they do not earn the enough amount of money. The first problem they may face is to reduce the costs of their living which may results in a drastic change of the lifestyle of the family members. They will not be able to get proper level of nutrition as the standard foods will be not available to them. They have to reduce the expenses of clothing and other living costs like energy sources. Social security level in terms of food, clothes and other requirements may not be easily achievable to the family (Rank, 2013). The above mentioned are the common problem they may face in their normal life. The expenses calculation has been done without considering the costs required to have the proper education and medical facilities to the family. The children of the family will not be able to have proper education for developing their future better. In case of any medical issue they have to depend on the government and social care organization. The income level of family will not be enough for supporting the family in standard medical facilities (Edelman, 2013). In case of having any issues with the maintenance of the house in which they are living, they may not be able to fulfill the requirement. In this case also, they have to depend on the government and social care organization for finding a shelter. After considering the overall consequences of the family due to the low income of the family, it can be concluded that the family may be highly dependent on the government facilities. In this situation, they may face another big issue as they are not at below poverty level. They will not be able to get all the facilities provided by the government for decreasing the poverty level.
